Databases

Online Databases

Online databases are available 24/7 to Saint Paul faculty, staff and current students, via the proxy server.  Users will need to login using their login name and password (login information). 

 

The databases available are:

 

EBSCOhost offers online access to bibliographic and full-text databases covering all subjects.  Databases offered through EBSCOhost include: 

 

-ATLA Religion Database with ATLA Serials offers access to over 1.4 million bibliographic citations of articles in journals, essays in books, book reviews, and D.Min. theses.

-Old Testament Abstracts offers access to over 41,000 abstracts for journal articles, monographs, multi-author works, and software related to Old Testament studies.

-New Testament Abstracts offers access to more than 38,000 article abstracts, 1,200 review abstracts, 13,500 book abstracts, and 50 software abstracts.

-Academic Search Premier provides full text for nearly 4,500 journals, including full text for more than 3,600 peer-reviewed titles. PDF backfiles to 1975 or further are available for well over one hundred journals, and searchable cited references are provided for 1,000 titles.

-Masterfile Premier provides full text for more than 1,730 general reference publications with full text information dating as far back as 1975. It also includes nearly 500 full text reference books, 84,774 biographies, 100,554 primary source documents, and an Image Collection of 235,186 photos, maps and flags.

FirstSearch offers library patrons the ability to conduct their own live, online searches and to generate Interlibrary Loan requests for materials found. Some of the databases available are:

 

-WorldCat (Books and other materials in libraries worldwide) WorldCat is the largest bibliographic database in existence and contains over 40 million records of all types of material cataloged by OCLC member libraries.

-Article1st (Index of articles from nearly 12,500 journals)

-Contents1st (Table of contents of nearly 12,500 journals)

-FastDoc (Index of articles with text online or 1-hr fax)

-NetFirst (OCLC database of Internet resources)

-Proceedings (An index of conference publication)

-PapersFirst (An index of papers presented at conferences)

-SocioAbs (Abstracts to articles on all aspects of sociology)

-SocSciAbs (Guide to the literature of the social sciences)

 

Religious & Theological Abstracts offers abstracts of articles in the field of religion.

 

Patrologiae Graecae contains more than 160 volumes of Greek material (with latin translations) relevant to the study of the history of the Christian Church from its beginnings through the Council of Florence in 1439.

 

Networked and CD-ROM Databases

 

BibleWorks is a Biblical exegesis and research program which includes 64 Bible translations in 22 languages, 9 original language texts with 7 morphology databases, 5 Greek lexicons and dictionaries along with 3 Hebrew lexicons and dictionaries. BibleWorks is accessible from any campus network computer.

 

The Works of John Wesley CD is located on the CD-ROM Reference Computer in the Library Reading Room. This CD contains the unedited fourteen-volume Jackson edition of The Works of John Wesley.
