The Board of Trustees of Saint Paul School of Theology has voted to call Rev. Dr. Elaine Robinson to the position of Academic Dean and Associate Professor of United Methodist Studies and Theology at Saint Paul School of Theology at Oklahoma City University.
Dr. Robinson is currently Associate Professor of Theology and Methodist Studies at Brite Divinity School. She is a theologian with expertise in Wesleyan theology with secondary teaching fields in evangelism and homiletics. Dr. Robinson will begin her responsibilities in Oklahoma City this July.
Oklahoma Extension Accreditation Received
Saint Paul School of Theology received a letter from the Association of Theological Schools informing the seminary that their Board of Commissioners voted to approve the Oklahoma City University extension site for the seminary. The seminary will now move forward with its plans for the Oklahoma extension and begin accepting applicants for the site.
"I am extremely excited about the possibilities and the prospects that await us in Oklahoma City," said Saint Paul President Myron McCoy. "I see this new beginning as being part of our continuing legacy, which got started 50 years ago, of making United Methodist theological education more accessible in the Midwest/ Heartland."
Trustees Approve Extension Site at
Oklahoma City University
Saint Paul School of Theology Board of Trustees announce plans for the seminary to establish an extension site in Oklahoma City at the United Methodist based campus of Oklahoma City University. The announcement follows a year-long exploration phase of the project. The idea was initiated by the Bishop of Oklahoma, Robert Hayes; the President of Oklahoma City University, Tom McDaniel; and the Dean of the Wimberly School of Religion, Mark Davies. An extension site plan was developed in consultation with the Saint Paul School of Theology faculty, staff, administration and trustees, corresponding persons at Oklahoma City University, and the bishop and other appropriate leaders of the United Methodist Oklahoma Annual Conference and the Oklahoma Indian Missionary Annual Conference.
The extension of Saint Paul @ Oklahoma City University will be formally open for students seeking the Master of Divinity degree in September 2008, with a plan of study for students who wish to complete their degree in three and a half years or more. Students will need to seek admission to Saint Paul School of Theology through the seminary’s usual application process.
“In the 2007-2008 year two pilot courses will be taught as part of our regular academic program via video classroom from Oklahoma City,” said Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean, Dr. Pamela Couture. Students who are admitted to Saint Paul School of Theology as either degree seeking or non-degree students who would prefer to take these courses in Oklahoma City may arrange to do so through the Registrar's office in Kansas City. The courses in 2007-2008 are Sept.-Dec. 2007, ETH 315 Christian Social Ethics and January-March 2008, CHS 346 American Criminal Law and Restorative Justice.
President Myron McCoy and Dean Pamela Couture note that this extension will further the mission of Saint Paul which is to educate persons for leadership in the ministry of the church, which is called to be the continuing incarnation of Jesus Christ. Saint Paul is a seminary chartered to fulfill this mission in the Heartland. The seminary continues to have particular concerns for making theological education accessible to underserved populations in the region.
